Testimonials
Hey Dave!
Sorry for the delay! I took some time off for the holidays - so I've been gone.
Wow the amp is amazing! I love it. It is by far the most amazing small amp I've ever heard! And it does have that responsiveness of a Matchless! I'm just getting into all of the nuances and tonalities. Haven't gotten a speaker for it yet. I'm just using various cabs right now. I can't believe how loud this amp is. So yeah, I'm more than happy. I'm turning all my friends on to it now, and enjoying it.From Larry Thrasher - Digidesign - California
Hi Dave---
---for a long while I wasn't able to hear your head-- I didn't have a speaker cabinet-- but then, a month or so ago my friend Sheldon and I assembled the cabinet and plugged it in. We were knocked out. It's very quiet (the most important thing for what it's headed for), the standby switch works well (and thanks for the nifty cord as well), and the quality of workmanship (we didn't open it up) looks marvelous. We tested it with a Danelectro guitar for a while, and, as Sheldon got comfortable with the head he switched to his Les Paul. He fairly effortlessly started dialing in some really fine creamy distortion, and was able to quickly and musically clean up the tone, using the tone indents and guitar volume. All this was done at Sheldon's (I don't have my own place) and I can't wait to get the head and cabinet paired up with my own guitars, which are more to my taste anyway. We A/B'ed it with my stock Epi head, which I also hadn't heard, and found it to be quieter (although my stock head is pretty quiet) and more musical. Sheldon replaced the preamp tube in the stock unit, and may or may not open yours up, as I am interested in upgrading the stock one with a NOS power tube, and, if I can order one from you, a new output transformer. I simply want the stock head to be distantly compatible with your head in the event something happens to yours or, and I've never done this, I should take a run at running stereo amplification.
I send you my thanks, and appreciation for craftsmanship that's a pleasure to work with. I'll let you know more when I'm able to gig with it, and would appreciate it if I could call you about purchasing an output transformer (I believe you said the stock power transformer in the Jr. is pretty good). Also my best wishes for the holiday-------peace, Steve Yerkey.
Dave,
I've only played the amp for a short time this weekend with Easter and everything. Sounds great so far. I love the sound. I made one change, I switched the chassis around so the back panel has now become the front panel, I think it looks a lot better this way. Plus after all your work you can't really call it an Epiphone anymore. I included a picture of the setup. I'm using my Boogie as a speaker cabinet for the ValveJr. The 7 Watt Ultimate Upgrade does sound very sweet thru the 12" Celestion Vintage 30 in the Boogie.
Thanks for the excellent work.
